Latest News: GS Restaurant Gurkha Durbar helps the Grayshott Prostate Project Charity

The Gourmet Society partner restaurant Gurkha Durbar has helped a prostate charity project raise over £1000 by providing a Mata Tirtha Puja feast (the Nepalese Mother’s Day) at the Grayshott Square Meal Event.

The event, which was organised by the Grayshott Village Square Events Group, was almost ruined by the unfortunate downpour of torrential rain before the Grayshott Social Club came to the rescue.

120 ticket holders poured into the social club’s main room to enjoy the delicious food provided by the restaurant, as well as the raffle and auction that had been organised. Alongside the feast, Mani and Sudha of Gurkha Durbar also donated a traditional Khukuri to the auction, raising a further £260 for the charity.

Rev. Moray Thomas, the Chairman of the Square Events Group, called the Gurkha Durbar food “delicious”, while the secretary and treasurer of the social club, Peter Hatch, said: “the Mata Tirth Puja was probably the biggest sit down lunch we have ever had”.

The fantastic day ended with a vibrant display of traditional Nepalese dancing.

Each event organised by the Grayshott Village Square Events Group is put together in aid of a different chosen charity. The Gurkha Durbar meal event helped contribute to the prostate cancer research taking place at the Guildford Post Graduate Medical School.
